Types of Kidney Stones

Kidney stones come in various shapes, sizes, and colors. Yet, they can all cause terrible pain. These stones can range in size from a grain of sand to a golf ball. They appear both smooth and jagged. And can be either brown of yellow.

 Natural removal of kidney stones is possible. But, what actually makes up a kidney stone? These excess deposits of crystallized waste material come in four common types.

1. Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body. It is used by the bones and muscles. Any excess is flushed out through the kidneys. When calcium remains in the kidneys it forms a stone.
2. A struvite stone is made up of magnesium and ammonia. It often forms after a urinary infection.
3. Uric acid is a waste product often found in the blood. When too much uric acid builds up in urine it forms uric acid stones.
4. Although rare stones can also be made up of cystine. This is a basic building block of nerves and muscles.
